One of the seasons biggest tasting events starts today and runs through Sunday in Greve in Chianti. Formerly known as the "Rassegna" this year for the 40th anniversary the event has been renamed the "Expo del Chianti Classico".
Whatever it is called, it is a great reason to get into the countryside and try some Chianti Classico. There are dozens of top producers, as well as side events, and things to eat of course. I think the tickets are 10 euro, and you get 7 tastes (you get a glass to keep).
This year I am looking forward to seeing my friend Fabrizio and trying the wines of Castello di Monterinaldi.
Where: Piazza Matteotti Greve in Chianti
When: September 9 (5PM to 9PM), 10 (11AM to 9PM), 11 (11AM to 7PM) & 12 (11AM to 9PM)
My husband and I were visiting Florence for our 25th Wedding Anniversary...we rented a car and by surprise attended your 40th Expo Chianti Classico. It was amazing. Chianti wine is my husbands favorite so when we found out there was a wine festival we were obviously very excited to attend. We arrived back to Canada yesterday only to find out that one of our wine glasses was broken. Would it be possible to have another one shipped to us. I will pay for the shipping...you could send it COD if you like. I can understand if you don't normally do this but I thought I would try. The glasses are a great souvenior of our wonderful time in Greve and at the wine festival.
Anne the only thing I can tell you is that I can ask around the next time I am down there. I am not officially connected to the event in any way, but I get these questions all the time! If I can find someone to contact, I am going to tell them to set up some on-line glass sales -
Hello - I just broke one of my 40th Expo wine glasses and am willing to pay a lot for a replacement. Please let me know. Thanks, Suzanne
